Overview

Meet, friends — the dolmen Tor. This was the first dolmen I saw in the Krasnodar region, and it made a strong impression on me. Look how massive it is: the structure is made of large solid stone slabs. I can stand inside this dolmen almost at my full height. Against the background of the forest and the blue sky, it looks especially unusual. If I had seen it here 200 years ago, I surely would have thought that the local people could not have built such a structure, since in this area there were hardly any quality houses, let alone such covering slabs as we see in this dolmen.

The dolmen is located in the peasant farmstead “Dolmen”. In this place there are four dolmens: the dolmen Tor, the dolmen Khan, the dolmen Maya, and the dolmen “Tenderness”. Each of them has its own features and particular charm: some impress with their size, others with their shape or location. Together they form an entire complex that makes this place especially attractive for tourists and researchers. About each of these dolmens I have spoken in detail on my website.

Why is the dolmen called Tor?
The name Tor is used to distinguish this dolmen from the other monuments in the same complex. It has become a convenient way for locals and visitors to identify the site. Over time, the name has been linked with its massive appearance and unique character.
What makes Dolmen Tor unique compared to other dolmens?
Dolmen Tor is built from large solid stone slabs with precise joints, without any mortar or cement. Inside, a person can stand almost at full height, which highlights its scale. Its geometric precision and preservation make it stand out among other megalithic structures in the Krasnodar region.
When was Dolmen Tor built?
According to the official version, dolmens are attributed to the Bronze Age. However, despite the existence of this theory, the true time of construction remains unknown. The lack of inscriptions or symbols makes it impossible to give a precise dating of this megalith.
Where is Dolmen Tor located?
Dolmen Tor is located in the peasant farmstead “Dolmen” near Gelendzhik in the Krasnodar region of Russia. This place is home to four dolmens: Tor, Khan, Maya, and Tenderness. Together, they form a small megalithic complex that attracts both tourists and researchers.
Can visitors go inside Dolmen Tor?
Yes, the interior space of Dolmen Tor is large enough for a person to stand almost upright. This gives visitors a direct impression of its size and the precision with which the stone slabs were placed. However, it is important to treat the monument carefully to preserve it for future generations.
Why does the origin of dolmens remain a mystery?
Dolmens like Tor display a level of precision and monumentality that seems difficult to achieve for local communities that did not have advanced technologies. Although an official version exists, many questions remain unanswered. This lack of clear evidence fuels ongoing debate and keeps the mystery alive for both tourists and researchers.
